Ericeira and Surroundings
The facilities of the PortugalSurfCamp are located in and around Ericeira, a former small fishing village thirty kilometres north of Lisbon. Ericeira is known world wide for its surf breaks and good waves.
The village has a long surfing tradition and every keen surfer, whether beginner or pro, will find epic waves here.
If the ocean is calm, then other activities such as yoga and pilates classes, scuba diving, fishing, snorkelling , tennis, horseback riding, cycling, kayaking and the new skate park will fill your time or you can chill by the pool or wander into town to the bars and shops.
Ericeira is a fantastic party location with several nice bars and two discotheques, of whom one the oldest of Portugal is.
The proximity to Lisbon makes it very interesting for people, who like to surf perfect waves during the day and want to party at night.
Surfspots
Due to its geographical position, Ericeira is blessed with some seriously sweet swells throughout most of the year. There are around 20 known spots all-together, but the whole coast is teaming with unknown spots begging to be found.
Here are some of the best:
São Julião
Foz d’Lizandro
Praia Norte & Praia Peixe
São Julião

This is our home break and an amazing beach break!
When it’s on it can match all the famous beach breaks in France easily: powerful, barrels and several peaks, but also great for teaching surf classes. This is our home break and an amazing beach break!
Foz d’Lizandro

Also a great beach break that can handle some swell. It get a bit crowded in summer with surfers and surf schools but the vibe in the water is usually relaxed and friendly. The fun can just be spoiled if the northerly wind is blowing to strong.
Praia Norte & Praia Peixe

Another good right hander that can handle some size. The spot can also be surfed when the waves are small and is therefore suitable for all levels. But be prepared if the surf starts pumping.
Pedra Branca
Ribeira D’Ilhas
Coxos
Pedra Branca
This great left hander is located near the local camp site. The spots is sometimes referred to be the Portuguese Pipeline because it breaks very hollow and powerful over a razor-sharp reef. Therefor it is usually packed with bodyboarders and tube-specialists.

Ribeira D’Ilhas
The most famous and surfed spots in the area that work in pretty much every swell size and tidal condition. It can be a very long wave when the peaks connect. Unfortunately this spots is very crowded in summer.

Coxos
Coxos is definitely the pearl of Ericeira; every good surfer get his or her barrel time here. It can get very crowded and it is essential to respect the locals! This heavy pointbreak is definitely nothing for beginners.
